cybermonday deals

New Haven (WTNH) _ As everyone returns to work today from the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, many will be heading online for holiday shopping, and those shoppers will be able to find a lot of special deals.

68 and a half million employees are expected to spend part of their day today shopping on their work computer. It's called Cyber Monday, or at least it has been for the past couple years since the National Retail Federation created that term.

They have a web site - cybermonday.com - offering lots of deals from lots of different on-line retailers.

Yes, it is kind of made up actually. The busiest on-line shopping day of the year is usually a week or two before Christmas.

Cyber Monday was invented to get the hype about Internet Christmas shopping going as early as possible. Still, they are expecting cyber shoppers to spend around $700 million today alone.

If that happens, it will add to the good news retailers got this weekend. All those "door buster" sales and extended hours worked. Retailers say business was up -- up more than 8 percent on Friday alone according to some reports.

Electronics - especially flat-panel TVs - appear to be the hot sellers.

That's a big relief for stores who were worried that high gas prices and the bursting of the real estate bubble were going to keep pocketbooks closed this year.

The big question now, will consumers stay in the spending spirit for the next four weeks, or has the holiday shopping season already peaked.
MILWAUKEE - It's become an after Thanksgiving holiday, Cyber Monday.

Consumers go back to work and shop online for gifts they didn't get in stores, and retailers offer deals to keep people shopping.

For example, if you didn't get the popular Nintendo Wii, you can find it online and on sale at 'www.walmart.com'.

The National Retail Federation estimates 72 million consumers plan to shop online from home or work this Monday after Thanksgiving, which is up 18 percent from last year.

Don't know what to get the people on your list? Try 'www.cybermonday.com'. It's a one-stop shopping Web site for anyone on your list.

Or for ideas go to 'www.gifts.com' and try and find a gift by personality or the person's interests!

Remember, many Web sites are offering free shipping too so take advantage of the great deals
