strong cold front is pushing through most of the country, bringing winter-like temperatures just about everywhere for the holiday weekend.

But tomorrow, on the heaviest day for travel, things should be smooth for those who aren't driving. Wednesday's forecast for Texas calls for warm, mostly dry weather. The cold front is expected to move through Texas tomorrow evening, bringing high winds, much colder temperatures and a chance for rain.

The high tomorrow in Austin will be in the mid-70s with only a slight chance of storms, according to the National Weather Service.

The temperature is expected to drop into the 30s in Austin by early Thanksgiving Day morning, and only climb into the mid 50s during the day. And it won't warm up for a while. In fact, it will be slightly colder. The high in Austin on Friday is expected to barely crack 50. And it just might rain on the Chuy's parade: Forecasters are calling for a high on Saturday in the 40s with a 60 percent chance of rain. It isn't expected to warm back up until Monday, when the high is expected to top 60.

If you're flying out of Austin tomorrow, be aware that the cold front will bring rain, snow and sleet to much of the country north of Texas, possibly causing delays no matter where you fly.

The weather service says it will rain in Chicago throughout the day, but the temperature will drop as the day progresses, bringing snow in the afternoon and evening. Rain will also turn into snow and sleet in St. Louis by mid-afternoon, the weather service says.

Up to 5 inches of snow could fall by tomorrow afternoon in Denver, the weather service says, and temperatures will dip into the teens.

Southern cities, including major Austin air destination Atlanta, shouldn't have a problem. The cold front will move through Atlanta on Thursday night, and it won't bring any wintry weather.

Yessss!! I'm sooo sick of the heat!!!
Especially great for Thanksgiving - who wants to eat all that heavy holiday food when it's warm outside. Not me!

Go to Greenland, as I did and you'll be sure to change your mind about cold weather, especially snow-what happens up there looks like snow, but it's hard ice and really hurts when you fall on it, if the storm that crated it hasn't killed you.

Sounds like a great day for good friends and family to gather indoors for Turkey, duckling, ham, oysters cheese sauces over veggies, sweet potato and quince pies plus lots of things with the scent of cinammon and apples while fat cats sleep by the hearthside after feasting on scraps.

Recommended - Parade: Chuy's annual Children Giving to Children parade begins at 11 a.m. at the Capitol and will last about an hour. Expect balloons, floats, marching bands, classic cars and Santa at the parade, which includes times for spectators to donate toys. The toys will then be distributed by the Operation Blue Santa Program during the holiday season.

Bring toys to donate to Operation Blue Santa and make a child's holiday happy. The parade begins at 11 a.m. outside the Capitol and lasts for about an hour, ending on Guadalupe Street. About 80,000 people are expected to show up, so get there early.

At 11 a.m. on Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, the Chuy's Children Giving to Children Parade will march, roll and float its way through downtown Austin.

The parade will feature all the things that make parades exciting to kids, including marching bands, fire trucks, an appearance by Santa Claus and giant floats in the style of a Macy's parade. And the grand marshal of the parade will be Longhorns coaching legend Darrell Royal. But what makes this parade special is in its title: Children have an opportunity to give the gift of a happier holiday to other children.

The parade begins at the Capitol and heads south on Congress Avenue. It then goes west on Sixth Street, ending at Guadalupe Street.

During the parade, which is in its 19th year, kids will have the opportunity to donate new toys to Operation Blue Santa, a nonprofit group led by the Austin Police Department that distributes the toys to children who otherwise wouldn't get many gifts. Flat-bed trailers that are part of the procession stop at various points during the parade, and kids run up to drop unwrapped toys on the truck.
