colleen camp

PILESGROVE TWP. The community will come together Saturday night, using music to help rebuild the office at Camp Edge which burned to the ground just one month ago after an electrical fire.

Sharptown United Methodist Church here will host a benefit concert starting at 6 p.m., headlined by Christian band Calling Levi from Delaware and also featuring music by locals Terry Buckner and Adams Wilson.

"It's exciting that the church stepped forward and put this benefit together to help support us," said Jack Fosbenner, who manages Camp Edge in Alloway Township with his wife, Sue.

The primary function of Camp Edge, an outreach ministry of Ranch Hope, Inc., is an eight-week camp for inner-city youth from Salem, Penns Grove, Carneys Point and Camden. There are several fundraisers throughout the year to offer scholarships to send the children to the camp.

The camp also hosts spring and fall rope challenge courses, summer aviation camp and the camp does a lot of work with Salem County juvenile probation.

"The fire just increased our workload," Fosbenner said. "It didn't really affect our programs."

That workload included going through a lot of rubble, salvaging a few items, and working toward rebuilding.

The Fosbenners were working out of their home, but just last Tuesday got into an office trailer.

"We're still trying to catch up," Fosbenner said. "The phone system is working. We're waiting for the Internet. It's not until you don't have it that you realize how much you use it."

He hopes the insurance company will release the building within the next two weeks so demolition can begin and construction can start on a new office
CROWDERS MOUNTAIN - It's a day without television, the Internet or your car. And WCNC anchors Sonja Gantt and Colleen Odegaard took the challenge.

They took off their make-up and spent a day in a team building camp meant just for women who aren't used to the outdoors. It is called Princess Survival Camp, run by Terry Vaughn of High Intensity Team Building.

They joined the Women's Motorsports Auxiliary for a series of challenges on Crowders Mountain. They were put to the test hiking, building shelters, dunking their head in ice-cold water and even eating bugs.

Which ones did they pass? Which ones did they fail? It's Colleen and Sonja like you've never seen them before.
