6 killed in wreck near Dothan
DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) ? A van driven by former University of Alabama football star Siran Stacy was struck by a pickup truck at an intersection, killing six people, including Stacy?s wife and four of his children, state toopers said Tuesday.

Trooper Sgt. Tracy Nelson said the driver of the pickup was on the wrong side of the road when it struck Stacy?s van on the passenger side around 11 p.m. Monday. He said the wreck occurred at an intersection on U.S. 84 about six miles west of Dothan.

Dorris Teague, a spokeswoman for state troopers in Montgomery, said the driver of the pickup truck also was killed and Stacy and his 3-year-old daughter were injured.
Stacy, 39, was a star running back for Alabama during 1989-1991. He was the first pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1992 draft, but never carried the ball in the NFL.

He was listed in stable condition in surgical intensive care at Flowers Hospital in Dothan. His 3-year-old child, Shelly Stacy, was air-lifted to Children?s Hospital in Birmingham, where her condition was not released by the hospital.

Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd said those killed in the wreck were Stacy?s wife, Ellen Stacy, 36, children Lequisa, 18, Bronson, 10, Sidney, 8, and Ellie, 2, all of Newton in southeast Alabama, and the driver of the pickup, Adam W. Wayman, 29, of Dothan.

Five members of the family of former Alabama football player Siran Stacy, 39, were killed in a wreck late Monday night that also killed another driver, according to the Alabama Highway Patrol.

Stacy and 3-year-old daughter Ellie Stacy were injured in the wreck that happened at 11:05 p.m., six miles west of Dothan on U.S. 84. The toddler was airlifted to Birmingham for treatment.

Adam W. Wayman, 29, the driver of the other vehicle, was fatally injured in the wreck.

Fatally injured in Siran Stacy's vehicle were Ellen Stacy, 36; Lequisa Stacy, 18; Sidney Stacy, 8; Bronson Stacy, 10; and Shelly Stacy, 3. The Stacy family lived in Newton.

?He hit them broadside, T-boned them at the intersection there,? Byrd said.

?It was horrendous .... I?ve never had anything like that in my life and I?ve been doing this for 20 years,? Byrd said. ?The truck that hit the car was on the passenger side and the impact was substantial. Everybody in there all died instantly. The kids in the back had seat belts on, the parents did not.?
