He asked them to avoid unhealthy practices, which had brought the image of the photography industry into disrepute.

Mr. Mandela Martin Donkor, Regional Chairman of the Union, said the group had currently 150 members and urged non-members to join it.

He appealed to professional photographers to pay their taxes regularly and promptly so that government could generate more revenue for development.

Organising a press conference in the capital on Sunday, representatives of a number of professional organisations said the protests are aimed at drawing the attention of the government and the Maoists towards growing insecurity in education institutions and workplaces.

As part of their protest, the professionals will be picketing the Singha Durbar, the seat of the government, for an hour from 10 am on Monday. On November 27 and 28, they will submit memos to the Prime Minister, Speaker of the parliament and leaders of various political parties, demanding tough measures to check threats, abduction and extortion. Similarly, a protest rally has been planned for Nov 29.

Nabaraj Pandey, managing director of Nobel Academy, who was abducted and tortured by the members of Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League (YCL) last week, said the government had not been able to take action against his kidnappers.

The YCL members had abducted Pandey and few other managerial officials, reportedly at the behest of Sunil Sharma, one of the financers of Nobel Medical College.

Speaking at the press meet, Nepal Medical Association general secretary Dr Kedar Narsingh K.C, president of Nepal Bar Association president Bishwo Kanta Mainali and president of Nepal University Teachers Association Bhupati Dhakal expressed support to the protest and called for immediate end to abduction and intimidation
