The soundtrack for the new musical film "Enchanted," featuring the songs of Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, will be released by Walt Disney Records Nov. 20.

Featuring the voices of the film's stars Amy Adams and James Marsden, the album also includes songs performed by recording artists Carrie Underwood (the tune "Ever Ever After") and Jon McLaughlin ("So Close"). The soundtrack hits stores one day prior to the film's Nov. 21 release.

"We're really trying to take you back to the 'Snow White' or 'Cinderella' era, pre-Belle, pre-Pinocchio, back to the earliest days of animation," Menken described about the music. Menken and Schwartz previously collaborated on the animated films "Pocahantas" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame."

Kevin Lima ("Tarzan," "102 Dalmations") directs the live-action (with animation) feature penned by Bill Kelly ("Blast From the Past"), which will star "Hairspray"'s Marsden as well as Amy Adams, Susan Sarandon and Patrick Dempsey. Idina Menzel (Wicked) is also featured in the film with Timothy Spall (forthcoming "Sweeney Todd") and youngster Rachel Covey.

The film, according to press notes, is a "classic Disney animated fairy tale [that] meets with modern, live-action comedy." "The film follows the beautiful princess Giselle (Adams) as she is banished by an evil queen (Sarandon) from her magical, musical animated land and finds herself in the gritty reality of the streets of modern day Manhattan. Shocked by this strange new environment that doesn't operate on a 'happily ever after' basis, Giselle is now adrift in a chaotic world badly in need of enchantment. But when Giselle begins to fall in love with a charmingly flawed divorce lawyer (Dempsey) who has come to her aid ?even though she is already promised to a perfect fairy tale prince (Marsden) back home ?she has to wonder: can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world?"

The movie's animated characters pop up into real life in the heart of the theatre district, in New York City's Times Square, with billboards of musicals (though some, like The Wedding Singer, now closed) setting the scene. Fittingly, the ensemble (and vocal cast) is filled with some stars of Broadway: Gregory Jbara (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), Judy Kuhn (Les Mis�ables), Brian d'Arcy James (The Apple Tree) and Daniel Mastrogiorgio (Contact), among others. Julie Andrews (My Fair Lady) provides narration.

Composer Menken ?known for his work on Little Shop of Horrors, Beauty and the Beast ?has previously teamed with Disney on "Home on the Range," "The Little Mermaid," "Aladdin," "Beauty and the Beast" and "Hercules." His musical version of Sister Act (with lyricist Glenn Slater) made its world premiere at California's Pasadena Playhouse. The duo are also developing a musical version of "Leap of Faith."

Schwartz has also penned music for the animated "The Prince of Egypt" and the television movie "Geppetto." He is known for his stage scores for Wicked, Godspell, Pippin, The Magic Show, Rags, The Baker's Wife and Children of Eden.
Walt Disney� new animated feature is only halfway so. Princess Giselle (Amy Adams) lives in the fairytale world of Andalasia. The villainous queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon, looking very much like Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty) gets rid of the princess by pushing into a magic portal.


Instead of finding her doom, the princess finds herself in a strange new land ?New York City. Her handsome Prince Edward (James Marsden) follows to save his ladylove, but finds that his fianc?is falling for Rob (Patrick Dempsey), a [gasp] New York lawyer. The bits in the land of Andalasia are animated, but when the film makes the leap to New York the action switches to live action.

The film does seem like it could be a good one, but I come here to review the soundtrack. Songs are written by Alan Menken (no stranger to Disney films) and Stephen Schwartz (no stranger to Menken, Disney films, and of late for Wicked).

The soundtrack features the amusing �appy Working Song?that appears to be aping �histle While You Work?most amusingly. There� also �ver Ever After?performed by Carrie Underwood, which will most likely be appearing on a radio station near you.

If you put the CD into your PC drive you�l also get a music video for �ver Ever After.?nbsp; Marsden even performs �hat� Amore.?nbsp; I found the album enchanting and look forward to seeing the film. special screening of Disney's Enchanted for the city of New York was held at the Ziegfield Theater on November 19, 2007.

Enchanted is in many ways an homage to classic Disney films, beginning as an animated tale then turns into a live-action musical. Director Kevin Lima turned to the team of Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz to create the musical journey for Princess Giselle. Enchanted features songs performed by Carrie Underwood, Idina Menzel and Jon McLaughlin. The screenplay is written by Bill Kelly.
