micro camcorder

We're not exactly sure what kind of evidence you'll be gathering with this so-called "world's smallest" micro camcorder. But whatever that is, you'd better get 'er done in two hours, because that's how long its battery lasts. You can see how tiny this thing is―small enough to literally pull out of your ass―but despite its Lilliputian size it can hold 33 hours of video on a 1GB SD memory card. One more animated pic after the jumpage.

The tiny camcorder uses the 3GP format, usually associated with cellphone video. The seller's not saying what the resolution is, but we'd be surprised if it were any bigger than 320x240. We do know it's going to give you the somewhat herky-jerky 15 frames per second frame rate.

Why not just surreptitiously shoot some video with your cellphone? Oh yeah, that phone would be a bit bigger than a pack of gum. One thing's for sure, if your cellphone costs $295 like this little trinket does, at least the phone would give you a few more features than just shooting crappy-looking video.

We reviewed the Octave Camera a few years back that had excellent resolution, was about the same size as this camera, and had no flashing LED. It also cost about a fourth of what this camera costs.

Sure you could put duct tape over the LED, but that's not the point. If it's marketed as the world's smallest spy camcorder and it costs $295 we think it shouldn't blink blinky.

BY DLE5 AT 09/24/07 03:04 PM This is the perfect device for people who want to catch bad cops like that kid.

BY DASHTHEHAND AT 09/24/07 03:53 PM @Gadget Madness: 6 minutes of video on its 128MB of storage hardly does a spycam make. I also wouldn't call the Octave nearly the same size, since its bigger on all dimensions, with a chunky protracted lens to boot. The octave screams that its a camera and seems much more obvious than something you can hide in a sleeve from a pack of gum.

BY MOORDRYD AT 09/24/07 09:39 PM @Gadget Madness: that is quite possibly the worst music on a YouTube video, ever.

Nevertheless, SpyGadgets says its "Micro-Camcorder" is the "smallest high-resolution, real-time digital camcorder ever produced." (Couldn't they cram any more qualifiers into that claim?) Marketing-speak aside, this $295 surveillance gadget is supposed to record both audio and up to 33 hours of video on a 1GB micro-SD card--but, as Gizmodo notes, its resolution isn't specified, so image quality is anyone's guess.
