LA councilman introduces resolution calling for U.S. withdrawal from Iraq

Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl on Wednesday introduced a non-binding resolution calling for an immediate and complete withdrawal of U.S. military personnel from Iraq. "This resolution should send a very clear message to the federal government that the city of Los Angeles does not support this war," Rosendahl said. "We want our troops and resources back home," he said. The resolution also urged the federal government to redirect funds used for the war to be used for health care, education, mass transit, infrastructure and homeland security. The resolution was seconded by City Council members Janice Hahn, Jose Huizar, Bernard Parks, Jan Perry, Ed Reyes and Herb Wesson. President George W. Bush has repeatedly rejected calls to withdraw U.S. forces from Iraq, claiming it could lead to attacks on the U.S., create a larger war and a nuclear arms race in the Middle East and put a key part of the world's energy supply under the control of extremists.
